Curing Anxiety
Sudden anxiety panic attacks are seemingly out of the blue and unprovoked. They are very intense and frightening experiences. Many sufferers say that they feel like they’re going crazy and losing their mind during an attack.
Disturbing sensations such as derealization and depersonalization often occur during attacks. Many sufferers dread that something bad is going to happen during an attack.
Sufferers of anxiety disorders such as agoraphobia are more susceptible to panic attacks. The severity of agoraphobia is varied and in some cases sufferers are able to lead fairly normal lives.
Sufferers have a fear of something embarrassing happening in an environment where they can’t easily escape. The fear of being seen to have a panic attack is enough to put them off from certain situations.
Although attacks may seem out of the blue, they are just the result of the body’s stress response system. In caveman times when humans hunted prey, the stress response was vital to man’s survival.
The fight or flight response triggers increase in heart rate and blood pressure, a boost in adrenaline and energy. The hunter would be ready to either run or fight his attacker. Thousands of years on and our brain chemistry have remained relatively unchanged.
Although many scientists believe that the stress response is the cause for many anxiety disorders it does have its uses. In modern day society, the stress response is triggered too frequently and unnecessarily triggered.
In a dangerous situation where you need to react quickly, the stress response is needed. However, when adrenaline and other hormones aren’t expelled from the body, it can damage the mind and body. This may lead to anxiety disorders.
Mental illnesses can sometimes be debilitating making life diffciult to cope with. Luckily there are treatments available for anxiety disorders. What’s more, there are therapies and techniques to help deal with anxiety and depression.
